Sales of Sony PlayStation 5 reached 17.3 million consoles by the end of 2021.
In the latest game news, we learned that Sony has published the financial report for the third quarter of the current fiscal year (the last quarter of 2021). The new official report shows, among other things, the release of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles to the market in the three months in question. This period starts on October 1, 2021 (October 9, 1400) and ends on December 31, 2021 (December 10, 1400).
During these three months, 3.9 million PS5 consoles and 200,000 PS4 consoles were purchased by retailers worldwide, bringing total PlayStation 4 sales to 116.9 million units. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 console has sold 17.3 million units since its launch until the end of 2021.
This period ranks first in the list of “Best Quarters in Sony History during the Holiday Season” in terms of PlayStation operating income.
PlayStation sales fell 8 percent from a year earlier due to shortages of hardware and peripherals. The point is that operating income has increased by 12.1 billion yen due to lower costs and improved profitability of the PlayStation 5, which is partly offset by lower sales of proprietary and non-exclusive games along with lower sales of PlayStation 4 consoles and peripherals.
It should be noted that the results of this financial quarter of 2021 have been compared with the same period of the previous year during which the PlayStation 5 console was launched. So a slight drop in sales is by no means surprising. In fact, the recent quarter was the second best PlayStation business season in Sony’s history in terms of revenue, and the best quarter in terms of operating income during the holiday season. Sony forecasts total revenue for the gaming and PlayStation network during the current fiscal year (From April 2021 to March 2022) Has reduced its operating income to 70 billion yen and expects significant revenue growth.
Other documents from a new financial report on Sony’s gaming performance show that the PlayStation Plus service has improved to 48 million subscribers. The PlayStation Network (PSN), on the other hand, has about 111 million monthly active users. Sony’s recent financial report shows the company’s profitability and significant improvement over the same period last year. Sony’s overall profit exceeded analysts’ various forecasts.
