In another part of the series of weekend articles, what to play, we went to a quality strategy game and we have an interesting independent game. Be with Zomji.
As usual on Wednesdays, this week we have another part of the series of weekend articles, what to play, in which we introduce two games; The first is a strategy-style work from the successful Relic Studio and the second is an interesting and entertaining independent game. So stay tuned for the introduction of the games:
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
There is not much time left until the release of Total War: Warhammer 3, so I dedicated one of this week’s games to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, made by Relic Studios, which is both a strategy game and related to the Warhammer series. It becomes. Of course, a newer version of this series has been released for 2017, but the fact is that the second version is a very high quality game, and since it may be unknown to some because it is old, it is the selected version to introduce.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, produced in 2009, when the late THQ was still releasing his games! Of course, Sega has won the rights to this collection since 2012. The game is developed by Relic Studio, which has also created other series such as Company of Heroes, and ironically, in the development of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, has taken a lot of inspiration from this series.
Relic Studio, in making games from the engine Used Essence Engine 2.0; An improved version of the same engine with which the first Company of Heroes and its add-on packs were built, and for this reason, we saw better graphics in this game that even now, after years, you do not enjoy and can be satisfied with. But more important than the discussion of graphics and visual effects are the core gameplay mechanics that still hold it back and offer its experience to fans of the strategy genre.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has various game modes, one of which is the story campaign part. The events of the game take place in the fantasy world of Warhammer, and we see the presence of various groups from space marines to orcs, which, of course, later became more races due to the add-on packages. In the campaign part, Relic has given gamers an interesting freedom to go through the steps of their choice, and these choices affect your destiny. On the other hand, you have to be careful in choosing your forces before going to the heart of the stage; Because during the stages your main focus will be on the battle and you will have only a limited number of auxiliary forces. Another interesting thing about the game campaign is the presence of role-playing elements in it, and for example, some forces can be upgraded by gaining experience points.
But apart from the campaign part, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II also offers Skirmish mode, and of course it was possible to play competitively and online. One of the main changes of this version compared to the previous part of this series was the lack of light and even the removal of construction mechanics from the game and its focus on the proper management of forces during battles. For this reason, for example, in the Skirmish section, the troops are all trained from a special unit, and it is no longer a question of building different buildings in the style of classical strategies. Johnny EbertIn defense of the decision, the game’s chief designer stated that the creators’ goal was to preserve the positive features of the original version of the series and combine it with attractive Company of Heroes elements, which eventually led to the game’s current gameplay.
However, with these changes and features, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II was a very successful overall game that managed to get a meta of 85, and many critics praised the new approach to the gameplay. So if you have not had the opportunity to experience this work until today and you are also interested in strategy style, it is recommended to play it.
For the second game this week, we have an extremely addictive standalone effect that can be experienced on a variety of platforms, including mobile. Downwell game is a product of 2015 and was made by Ojiro Fumoto, the story of making the game has its own special charms.
Ojiro Fumoto graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in Opera Singing in 2014, but after graduating, he concluded that his future was not to be determined by singing opera. For this reason, after reading an article, he decided to enter into special game-making events in which each person made a game each week. Downwell was the thirteenth game that Fumoto made during the events related to these events, and after bringing it to a playable level, he concluded that this project has a lot of potential and can become a real and diffuse game. Thus, the Downwell project was completed and released in 2015 by Diwali Digital.
Downwell has a very simple idea in appearance, but you are going to be killed over and over again, and each time you tell yourself that it’s just one more time (!) And God knows how many times it will last again. . The general process of the game is that the game character first jumps into a well and now, while deliberately falling into it, he has to destroy various enemies, find hidden parts and survive as long as he can. And keep going down. The game as a whole has only a few mechanics; Move left, right and jump when you are on a fixed surface, and if you hit the jump key while you are between the ground and the air, bullets will be fired down from the character’s shoes.
Now you are the combination of these mechanics with which you must destroy the enemies and try to reach the deeper parts of the well. Let us not forget that after each death, the structure of the stages changes, and for this reason Downwell always maintains his freshness. So if your heart desires a hard yet addictive game, do not miss Downwell.
